RGMVP made a modest beginning in April 2002 in two districts of UP: Sultanpur
and Raebareli. Since then, the Programme has
grown exponentially and now covers over 2,90,500
families organised into 24,205 SHGs spread
across 72 blocks or administrative units in 20
districts of Uttar Pradesh. The SHGs have now
been federated into 753 VOs (Gram Sangathans)
and 15 BOs (Block Sangathans) across the
Programme area. Today, RGMVP is the most
successful and the fastest growing social
mobilisation programme in UP.
RGMVP affiliated SHGs have generated a total savings corpus of over Rs
108 million, and more than 13,925 SHGs have been credit linked with public sector banks in the region with access to a cumulative credit line of Rs 728 million. Apart from poverty alleviation and financial inclusion, RGMVP has had a profound empowering impact on more than two million individuals who are directly or indirectly associated with it. Livelihood enhancement through activities such as dairy farming, livestock rearing, non-farm sector and other small entrepreneurial activities has ensured that lakhs of families have sustainable means of earning and have improved their economic condition. Training in income generation activities has contributed substantially to equipping poor women with skills to earn livelihoods. Sustainable agricultural practices are ensuring that the poor are able to rejuvenate their small land holdings and make a living from tilling their lands. Mobilisation and motivation of women on issues of health, education, gender and social problems has brought about a veritable revolution in the perceptions of the women and they are now involved in community driven action centred on these issues.
